- Abstract
The article determines the association between stillbirth and risk factors known at the time of pregnancy confirmation, and the contribution of these risk factors to racial disparities. The factors that were found to be independently associated with stillbirth were non-Hispanic African American race/ethnicity, previous stillbirth, nulliparity with and without previous losses at fewer than 20 weeks' gestation, diabetes, and maternal age 40 years or older, maternal AB blood type, history of drug addiction, smoking during the three months prior to pregnancy, obesity/overweight, and plurality. Stillbirth rates were found to be higher among non-Hispanic African Americans than non-Hispanic whites.
