- Abstract
The article presents a case study on the prevalence of heavy smoking in California and the U.S. from 1965 to 2007. It is stated that the cigarette smokers in the U.S. consume one pack of cigarettes a day. From 1965 to 2008, the prevalence of smoking in the U.S. declined with California leading the country in enacting public policies to reduce cigarette smoking. The study used the National Health Interview Surveys (NHIS) and the Tobacco Use Supplements to the Current Population Survey (TUS-CPS) for sampling.
