- Abstract
This article provides an overview of new critical approaches to literature and attempts to apply them to modern Basque literature, concentrating on Ramon Saizarbitoria's series of novels Gorde nazazu lurpean. It begins by examining concepts such as `fiction', `games', `reality', `irony' and `possible worlds', and goes on to assess the presence of these elements in the work of the Basque writer. It reflects on the possibility of expressing reality in literature and the importance Saizarbitoria attaches to human relationships and to psychoanalysis. Finally, it considers Saizarbitoria ` s self-reference in the novels discussed.
