- Abstract
With the development and prosperity of economy from the mid-Ming to Qing dynasty, cultural and educational undertakings of Qindao were gradually developing. The population of intellectuals was large and burgeoning cultural clans were springing up in large numbers which mainly centered on Jimo and Jiaozhou couties. Earlier clans include the Guan of Pingdu, the Lan, the Yang and the Huang of Jimo. They appeared in the mid-Ming, yet lasted up to Qing Dynasty. During late Ming to early Qing, The Ding of Zhucheng, the Zhou of Jimo, the Gao and the Fa of Jiaozhou sprang up while the Gou of Jimo burgeoned in the early Qing and the Ke in late Qing. All clans emphasized education and have left numerous works of politics, literature, calligraphy, historiography and some other realms, exerting a profound influence on local culture and literature, and furthermore, promoting the flourish and prosperity of Qingdao.
