The composition of terror and the terrifying in the 17th century, based on the Christian thought of the supernatural as a struggle between good and evil, is activated in Golden Age Spanish narratives through the exploration of violence in certain narrative contexts. This paper will review a series of paradigmatic examples that show different ways of capturing this violence and its crystallization in scenes of supernatural and terrifying nature.
