- Abstract
The article discusses the highlights of a scientific session on patent foramen ovale (PFO) to be presented at the 2009 International Workshop on Interventional Pediatric Cardiology. Gianpaolo Anzola of the Ospedale S. Orsola FBF Brescia, Italy cites that strokes can be prevented by closing the PFO with a device that ensures complete closure, consist of material that conforms to both sides of the septum, and free from risks of erosion, infection, arrhythmia, and thromobogenicity. Gianfranco Butera of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, Italy presents findings of a study that analyzes clinical practice on PFO closure in Italy, and confirms the interest of neurologists concerning indications of PFO closure among migraine sufferers and scuba divers.
