- Abstract
Design and communication are indispensable parts of modern life and have a robust relationship. Design helps to express a message visually and is an effective tool for communication. Well-designed communication material is better understood and communicated more effectively by the target audience. Design can affect different aspects of communication. Good design is essential for communication because of the link between visual and verbal communication. Good design can help clarify the message and engage the target audience better. Therefore, design and communication are critical to an effective marketing strategy. This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the role of metaphors in persuasion mechanics in graphic design discourse with a semantic approach. For this purpose, the visual images of the randomly selected movie posters containing metaphorical expressions and the messages tried to be given with these images were examined. Four posters emphasizing the metaphorical narrative were selected. Analyzing the metaphorical terms stressed in the design will illuminate the literature. In addition, while trying to reveal the scenarios examined in the study, the designer's thinking process, the implicit message to be given, and how they use metaphors as a means of artistic expression, the study was tried to be supported by the literature review. In the research carried out through document analysis, metaphor was evaluated on the primary and secondary subjects in the advertisements by examining the posters.
