- Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the second repeat Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Material and Method: Twenty eyes of 20 patients who underwent second SLT treatment for POAG were included in this retrospective study. A second SLT was applied to patients whom intraocular pressure (IOP) remained above 21 mmHg despite a maximally tolerable medical therapy and an initial SLT. A second SLT was performed on an average of 7.65±0.81 (7-9) months after the initial treatment. The initial and second SLT treatments were compared in terms of IOP lowering effects, success rates and side effects. Results: The mean IOP decreases were 3.85±1.30 (2-6) mmHg in the initial SLT and 3.35±1.8 (1-6) mmHg in the second SLT; success rates were 55% in the initial SLT, 50% in the second SLT, 3 months after the SLT treatment. No significant side effects were observed in patients. There were no statistically significant differences in terms of reduction of IOP and success rates between the first and second SLT treatment. Conclusion: This study suggests that the repeat SLT is as effective and safe as the first SLT treatment.
