- Abstract
An article on Jewish people in Germany's border regions of Poznań, now Poland, and Alsace-Lorraine, on the border with France, between the foundation of the German Empire and World War I is presented. The author discusses the tension between growing German nationalism and the regional identities of people living in these areas, as well as examining the effect of the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine and Poznań on the identity of the Jewish population of Germany. The role of border regions like Poznań and Alsace-Lorraine as cultural and political buffers is also examined.
