- Abstract
A commentary published in Acta Paediatrica discusses the safety and immunogenicity of a Group B Streptococcus (GBS) vaccine in pregnancy and the determination of a serocorrelate for infant protection. GBS is a leading cause of stillbirths and infant deaths worldwide, and a maternal GBS vaccine is considered a public health priority. The commentary highlights the results of a phase 2 trial that showed Pfizer's GBS hexavalent vaccine to be safe and immunogenic. The study also provides evidence for a serocorrelate of protection that can be used in future research. However, the study has limitations, and further research is needed to better define the serocorrelate and assess the impact of different populations and pre-existing antibodies on vaccine response.
