- Abstract
Studies have suggested that most symptoms occur 3-15 minutes after intake and that severe reactions always occur immediately.5,10 A double-blind, placebo-controlled gluten provocation is necessary when the parents or patient strongly expect a reaction and when the symptoms are subjective. Abbreviations IgE immunoglobulin E INTRODUCTON Gluten-related diseases, such as coeliac disease, wheat allergy and non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, are increasingly being diagnosed in children. One example is patients who have started a gluten-free diet without undergoing a duodenal biopsy.4 The standard wheat allergy assessment involves double-blind dietary provocation,5 but it is widely recognised that this is difficult to implement in practice for a few reasons.
