- Abstract
Palaeomagnetism and Diagenesis in Sediments is a collection of papers from a conference held at The Geological Society, Burlington House, London, UK, in October 1997. The book consists of 17 papers that deal with how the chemical and physical changes taking place during diagenesis can alter the magnetization of a sediment, and how the magnetic properties of a sediment can be used as proxies for diagenesis. The time window for diagenesis is not defined by the editors but, following the modern concept of diagenesis, introduced by Walther about one hundred years ago (Walther, 1893), it encompasses the complex post-depositional processes affecting a sediment from the moment of deposition all the way to lowgrade metamorphism.
