- Abstract
This article reports that a market research manager's effectiveness is based primarily on enabling subordinates to achieve high performance and work satisfaction. Numerous tools are available for managers to use to enhance management and leadership effectiveness. The Department of Strategic Planning and Market Research at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation has used an instrument developed by the Management Research Group of Portland, Maine, to help improve managerial effectiveness. This instrument, The Management Effectiveness Analysis, was used by the department's director and managers in assessing current managerial styles to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the management team to determine overall effectiveness. Few market researchers would disagree that a key element of the success of an efficient, effective market research function is strong management, especially as the number of employees grows. Market research managers should assess the amount of time they spend developing their functional expertise and compare it with the amount of time they spend developing their managerial skills. Many managers could generate more value and benefits to their organizations by aggressively developing their management talent.
