- Abstract
The present text aims to show some of the features that characterized the reader in the literary newspapers for nineteenth-century women in the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico) from the study of the dynamics and contextual situations present during the decade from 1860 to 1870 in two newspapers such as La Biblioteca de Señoritas and La Siempreviva. These texts are relevant because, in spite of being related to traditional Catholicism or the impacts of liberal reforms, they are dedicated to set up a woman who receives several modifications to the tradition in its textualities. The result is that one of them is established as a newspaper that builds a male reader that aims to guide women, while another one configures a reader who is characterized as enlightened on the way to her emancipation.
