- Abstract
Appendicectomy is the most commonly performed emergency surgical procedure. Several reports suggest that the retrocaecal position of the appendix is the commonest with an incidence between 45 and 65 per cent',2. Most incidence figures are based on autopsy reports. In clinical practice the incidence is lower3,4. It is possible that different anatomical positions of the appendix might affect its susceptibility to acute inflammation. In this series the relationship between the position of the appendix and the presence of acute inflammation was studied.
