- Abstract
The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, Karim A.A. Khan, has announced that arrest warrants are being sought for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Al-Masri, and Ismail Haniyeh. The ICC prosecutor alleges that these individuals bear criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Israel-Hamas War. The accusations against Israel include starvation, causing suffering and serious injury, intentional attacks on civilians, extermination, persecution, and other inhumane acts. The accusations against Hamas include extermination, murder, taking hostages, rape and sexual violence, torture, and cruel treatment. The response to these arrest warrants has been contentious, with some arguing that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas. The ICC's pre-trial chamber will now consider the next steps.
