The article reports on mixing of light and matter excitations to form microcavity polaritons by embedding organic dyes in a suitably designed optical microcavity. It discusses the research findings of D. Coles and co-workers, published in the periodical "Nature Materials" in 2014, related to method for nonradiative, intermolecular energy transfer that exploits the intermediating role of optical modes in a microcavity.
