The article presents a study that investigates the creation of one thermalized electron-hole pair per absorbed photon above the semiconductor bandgap of the photovoltaic absorber. It is given that the process doesn't require use of third-generation photovoltaics. It is also found that the directions described here have considerable potential to enable very high photovoltaic efficiencies.
