The article focuses on protecting people with intellectual disability from wrongful execution with reference to the court case Atkins v. Virginia. Topics include Atkins v. Virginia holds that a person with intellectual disability (ID) cannot be sentenced to death or executed, and the South Carolina Supreme Court stayed the proceedings while the U.S. Supreme Court resolved the issue.
