- Abstract
The article discusses the quest for freedom of speech as reflected in the life and literary works of the American novelist Ray Bradbury. The punitive impact of state-sanctioned censorship has been opposed by Bradbury in his fiction "Fahrenheit 451," and was the subject of a legal protest made by Ohio University student Jillyann Burns and the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) against the higher education institution. The tradition of promoting liberty is also advocated in other literary worts such as Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" and George Orwel's "Nineteen Eighty-Four."
