- Abstract
The article considers the aesthetics of ballads and poetry forwarded by the Pre-Raphaelites, especially Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and includes a criticism of the ballad romance, “The Romaunt of the Page” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Topics include Pre- Raphaelite medievalism, anachronism, Victorian imitation of ballads, and how ballads can be defined as "modern-antiques."
