- Abstract
The article explores themes of music and performance in the art and poetry of English author-artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Paintings discussed include the 1865 painting entitled "The Blue Bower," the 1851 poem “During Music," and the 1867 painting entitled "A Christmas Carol." Theories of art, music, and performance forwarded by scholars including Walter Pater, Hermann Helmholtz, and William Pole are explored.
