The article offers poetry criticism of the poem “Neutral Tones” by Thomas Hardy. It explores the affective, subjective and biographical dimensions of the poem through an examination of its meter. The article discusses the poem's originality, its voice and tone and the effect that the success of the poem may have had on its author. The article provides a critical interpretation of the poem and discusses the sense of tension the reader gets from the author through the reading of his poem.
