- Authors
WILLIAMS, RHIAN
- Abstract
The article discusses the perception of the poetry collection "Sonnets," by English poet and playwright William Shakespeare, among readers during the Victorian period in England. It examines the public reception of an edition of the poetry collection, edited by Edmund Malone and published in 1780, in light of Victorian perspectives on the form of the sonnet in general. Topics explored include the role of Shakespeare as an example of sonnet writing and poetry criticism of the 19th century.
