- Abstract
Musculoskeletal infection following body piercing occurs rarely and has not been previously described in the orthopaedic literature. We report on a 17-year-old boy who developed hematogenous Staphylococcus aureus infection of the sacroiliac region following piercing of his eyebrow. Diagnosis was confirmed by bone scintigraphy and he responded well to antibiotic therapy. With the growing popularity of body piercing, the orthopedic community worldwide needs to be aware of the significant musculoskeletal sepsis that may complicate this fashion.
