- Abstract
This article discusses the relationship between socioeconomic differences and differences in time allocation by women. The authors study the time that women allocate to housekeeping, leisure, and child care and examine differences that follow socioeconomic trends. The authors used data from the American Time Use Study between 2003-2005. The authors observe that the amount of time that women spend engaged in leisure activities related to their health varies based on socioeconomic status. Relationships between women's income and the amount of time that they spend engaged in housekeeping activities that are traditionally assigned to men are also considered.
