The article presents a literary criticism about the short story "In the Penal Colony" (IPC), or "In der Strafkolonie," by Franz Kafka, in which the author examines the story's use of punishment, carried out by an execution, as a critique on the status of art and its engagement with punishment. Topics include an analysis of sounds and silence in the story associated with punishment, as well as the story's engagement with the act of writing and the administration of justice.
