- Abstract
An adolescent girl with embryonal cell carcinoma of the ovary was treated with surgery and a new combination of chemotherapeutic drugs - 5-fluorouracil, Cytoxan, methotrexate, and vincristine. Her survival of 15 months was unusual for this highly malignant gonadal tumor. Histopathologically at autopsy, her embryonal cell carcinoma featured a characteristic network of spaces lined with embryonal cells, as well as distinctive glomerulus-like structures, and hyaline bodies located intracellularly and extracellularly. Continued investigation and further clinical trial with surgery and combination chemotherapy is warranted in an effort to manage highly malignant embryonal cell carcinoma of the ovary.
