- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "The Girl Who Spun Gold," Virginia Hamilton's Caribbean retelling of the tale "Rumpelstiltskin" is presented. It analyzes multiculturalism linked to African American tradition and postulates that the book acknowledges African American socio-cultural history in Africa, the U.S. and in the African diaspora from an Afrocentric perspective. It discusses the Africana Afrocentric elements incorporated in the story such as liberation, ancestral heritage and slavery.
