The article discusses the work of the expatriate Haitian authors René Dépestre, Émile Ollivier, and Dany Laferrière, with particular focus given to the themes of sexuality, gender, and their relationship with exile. The concept of nations as feminine and exiles as masculine in their work is also explored.
