- Abstract
This article provides information on the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of poplar wood in Slovenia. It highlights the three native species of poplar in the country: black poplar, white poplar, and aspen. The article explains that poplar wood is lightweight and soft, with good drying properties and dimensional stability. It is commonly used in woodworking, furniture making, and paper production. The document also discusses tension wood in poplar trees, explaining that while small amounts of tension wood do not significantly affect the quality of processing and handling, a higher proportion can have a critical impact. Additionally, the article includes microscopic descriptions of poplar wood anatomy and guidance on distinguishing it from other types of hardwood.
