- Authors
MURRAY, WILLIAM G.
- Abstract
The article discusses several stages of development of the governmental farm credit in the U.S. The first stage of governmental credit was from 1787 to 1820, and a farm credit legislation was passed in 1800, that extended the period of credit from one to four years. The second stage was from 1900 to 1932, and the Federal Farm Loan Act was passed in 1916, that stated that loans could be made for the purchase of land for agricultural uses, for the purchase of equipment, fertilizers, and livestock, and to provide buildings and for the improvement of farm lands. The third stage of the governmental credit was after 1933, during which the Emergency Farm Mortgage Act of 1933 was passed, that provided for the Land Bank Commissioner loans.
