- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the body mass of lesser scaup during fall and winter seasons in the Mississippi Flyway. The body dynamics of fall migrating and wintering lesser scaup have not been examined since the 1980s and early 1990s in the Mississippi Flyway. The main objectives of the study were to estimate the body mass of lesser scaup and examine sex-specific variation in mass, and compare contemporary estimates of scaup mass. Results indicated that decrease in scaup body mass during fall at important migrational and wintering areas in the Mississippi Flyway may not significantly contribute to the scaup population decline.
