- Abstract
The opposition during the creation of the characters of a wife of a ruler from the Kingdom of Duklja, appears in many Serbian historical dramas. At one side stands Kosara, a loyal wife of king Vladimir, a true heroine, and on the other, Jakvinta, the wife of king Bodin, taken to the edge of hell by various playwrights. The primary subject of this paper is the portrayal of Queen Jakvinta's character in historical writings and in Jovan Subotić's dramas. The impact of historical writings on the drama biography of Queen Jakvinta will be determined. Research attention will be paid to the transformation of Queen Jakvinta's character, from charming, devoted mother and caring advisor to the bloodthirsty and soulless wife. The focus will also be on the comparison of Queen Jakvinta with Shakespeare's Richard III.
