- Abstract
The article summarizes the growth and development of labor unions and industrial relations in Israel. The authors report the early unions were comparable to those in Europe and modeled similar to a corporatist system. The political relations between the Labor government, which held power between 1948 and 1977, and Israel's primary union, the Histadrut are reported. The move towards decentralization, union pluralization and the rise of the conservative Likud party is evaluated in its impact on labor relations. Union membership rate trends, the impact of health reform laws, rise of independent professional unions and changes in the Israeli workforce are discussed.
