- Abstract
Corporate governance activities have begun to be taken into account by many businesses operating in both developed and developing countries, with the increasingly competitive environment and globalization. In Turkey, the concept of corporate governance has gained a tangible quality with the corporate governance principles, which were published in 2013 and included in the management policies of many businesses. In this respect, the ultimate aim of the study is to reveal the possible effect of the fact that the chairman of the board of directors is female and the number of female executives in the board of directors of the companies included in the Borsa İstanbul Corporate Governance Index. In this perspective, Return on Assets, Return on Equity and Tobins' q values of the companies included in the Borsa Istanbul Corporate Governance Index during the 2013-2018 period were determined as the dependent variables of the research, while the female chairman of the board of directors and the ratio of female members in the board of directors were considered as independent variables taken. In the study, the relevant data were examined by the Dynamic Panel Data Analysis method, and the findings obtained as a result of the analysis revealed the relationship between the female executive density in the board of directors and the firm performance. As a final result, it was claimed that female executive density is a situation that should be included in the firm analysis by market participants.
