- Abstract
In the case of tourism destinations, the environment is regarded as a resource, divided into endowed resources and created or unnatural resources. Environmental management serves to protect, improve and develop all these resources. However, in order for these management activities to be carried out in a systematic manner, the stakeholders must act with a common mind. Although stakeholder participation is required in this case, it appears that stakeholders in many tourism destinations have not acted jointly while taking decisions on environmental management. Although stakeholders can not come together for this reason, it is of great importance to determine their thoughts about the topic and to determine common points and evaluate them as information in the preparation of various plans and programs. The most important competitiveness factors that attract tourists in destinations that are active in winter tourism such as Erzurum are winter season length, snow quality and natural skiing areas. These factors are among the most important sources of destination at the same time. Effective environmental management must be monitored to ensure the continuity of these conditions. Tourism sector stakeholders' thinking about environmental management is very important in terms of the sustainable development of destinations. For this reason, it was aimed to investigate in depth the perceptions of tourism sector stakeholders in Erzurum, which is a winter tourism destination, regarding environmental management. The research was conducted in depth with a total of five people, including the central and local management and the accommodation management managers. A standardized open-ended interview technique, which is a qualitative method in the research, has been adopted. As a result of the comprehensive literature survey, interview questions were used in relation to the environmental management in Dwyer and Kim (2003)'s Integrated Competitiveness Model. As a result of the research, it was observed that all stakeholders gave positive answers in general. Based on the interview, it can be said that the tourism sector stakeholders in Erzurum province, which has a significant potential in terms of winter tourism, have a positive perception of environmental management.
