- Abstract
The article reports about the declining cervical cancer deaths in the U.S. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control evaluated the age-specific proportions of the women of the U.S. having an intact uterus during 1965-1988. This data was used in calculating the annual rates of cervical cancer mortality corrected for rises in the prevalence of hysterectomy. The factor behind the decline in mortality from cervical cancer is not due to hysterectomy. It was found that hysterectomy prevalence was responsible for only 8% decrease in death rates.
