- Title
Stealing Trade Secrets Will U.S. Crack Down?
- Authors
Kaltenheuser, Skip
- Abstract
This article reports on the economic impact that losses in proprietary information and intellectual property has on U.S. companies. The author notes that due to the economic downturn foreign countries and companies are becoming more concerned with obtaining any advantage they can, including stolen trade secrets. The author suggests that this activity will only be deterred by increasing government pressure to pursue and prosecute guilty parties. The author adds that cases filed under the U.S. Economic Espionage Act are often difficult to win and prosecutors often file alternative charges such as wire fraud, interstate transportation of stolen property or computer hacking.
