- Abstract
The article reports on the need for power rationing on companies and populations in Sub-Saharan Africa to limit the effects of a worsening energy crisis. It is stated that decades of underinvestment in electricity networks and growing populations mean the poorest 20 percent in the region has no access to electricity. It is said that even in wealthier African countries like Nigeria, reliability of supply is often so poor that all large businesses need their own generators. It is further said that peak power demand in sub-Saharan Africa is forecast to exceed capacity from 2007.
