- Title
SLAVIC ACCENTUATION 3: THE LOSS OF THE INDO-EUROPEAN LARYNGEALS.
- Authors
Kortlandt, Frederik
- Abstract
The article focuses on the loss of Indo-European (IE) laryngeals in the Slavic language accentuation. It notes that the laryngeals of the IE proto-language were lost in Baltic and Slavic after the dissolution of the IE linguistic unity. It states that a laryngeal cannot be established as a result of the merging of long vowels with older long vowels. It suggests that Slavic accentuation will be more understandable when being connected with IE laryngeals.
