- Abstract
The article explores the community life of Jews pioneers in Fargo, North Dakota from 1881 to 1917 with emphasis on the formation and growth of their community. It states that early Jewish community started in 1880 when Alex Stern, a pioneer merchant, arrived and opened a clothing store. The author explores their early religious life and Jewish education as well as notes their occupations which include operating stores covering a wide array of products. He also describes the social relations within the community and the conditions of Eastern European and German Jews.
