- Abstract
The article discusses on the City of Hate Affair, a controversy that stems from a television (TV) documentary about anti-Semitism in Elsinore, California in the late 1950s and early 1960s. According to the author, this controversy is one of the most unusual cases in the history of broadcasting and history of California. It notes that the controversy raised the questions of whether a TV station had slandered the community of Elsinore by producing a documentary about anti-Semitism. The City of Hate Affair started with a dispute over the use of mineral water in Elsinore assumed anti-Semitic overtones. The documentary appeared on KTLA, a TV station in Los, Angeles, in December 1959, and the broadcast resulted to public outcry by Jewish residents of Southern California.
