- Title
AGRICULTURAL GLEANINGS FROM SAN FRANCISCO'S WEEKLY GLEANER.
- Authors
Clar, Reva
- Abstract
The article discusses the agricultural gleanings of Rabbi Julius Eckman, founder-editor of San Francisco, California's "The Weekly Gleaner." Though he lacked business experience, Eckman's understanding of the agricultural potentials of the Golden State prompted him to present alternatives to commerce before the readers of his publication. The first summer existence of the "Gleaner" published the article "The Resources of California" which summarized the commercial and agricultural potentials of the state. Eckman highlighted the importance of agricultural gold over the vast amounts of mineral gold being mined in California. The author cited various members of the Jewish community in California who demonstrated Eckman's contention that there was gold in agriculture and horticulture.
