- Authors
Shilo, Margalit
- Abstract
The article presents a discussion on the women's involvement in the national Hebrew education and agriculture on the first wave of immigration, or the First Aliyah between 1882 and 1903, and the male attitudes toward the involvement of women in Eretz-Israel. It cites that the zenith of women's involvement in the Zionist revival was their admission to teach in schools in which they were allowed to work as elementary schoolteachers, nursery schoolteachers, and even principals. It also cites Eliezer Ben-Yehuda who was the first father to force his wife to speak only Hebrew with their children.
