The article discusses a study which investigated the effectiveness of an automated secretion removal device that uses rapid deflation and inflation of the endotracheal tube cuff during the inspiratory phase of a mechanical ventilation breath. Topics include similar techniques or technologies used to remove secretions, similarities and differences among technologies to clear secretions in patients with artificial airways, and conclusion on automated secretion removal.
