- Abstract
The article discusses a bookplate designed by French jeweler and glass artist René Lalique for the American hostess Emilie Busbey Grigsby. The bookplate was first discovered by historians in a copy of the book "La Légende de Saint Julien l'Hospitalier" by Gustave Flaubert, printed by printer Lucien Pissarro's Eragny Press. According to the author, the bookplate is a rarity in Lalique's body of work as he designed few bookplates. Details related to other books in Grigsby's collection are presented. Other topics include the Adelphi University Libraries' Donald V. L. Kelly Small Press Collection, in which the book was found, and the exhibition "Illustrating the Good Life: The Pissarros' Eragny Press 1894-1914," held at the Grolier Club in New York City in 2007.
