- Abstract
The article focuses on clinical research methodology and examines the way physicians perceived the status of medical knowledge in Geneva, Switzerland, from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. Croup research conducted by physicians Gaspard Vieusseux, Louis Jurine, and Jean-Pierre Maunoir is examined. The author considers the methods they used, how they organized their observations, the arguments they presented, and their concerns over the validity of their approach. The definition, history, and diagnosis of the contagious respiratory children's disease croup and the place and role of observations are also discussed.
