- Title
The strengths and limitations of animal models in assessing the effects of red blood cell storage age on clinical outcomes.
- Authors
Gehrie, Eric A.; Tormey, Christopher A.
- Abstract
The author discusses the development of various animal models to help elucidate the effects that red blood cells (RBC) storage time may have on specific laboratory variables and disease states including one involving the collection and banking of canine RBCs. Topics discussed include the major strength of existing animal models of RBC storage age involving very tight control of RBC storage duration and the volumes transfused to study subjects.
