The article focuses on the association of German theologians Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon at the Diet of Augsburg, meeting of the Imperial Diet of the Holy Roman Empire in Augsburg, Germany in June 1530. It highlights the criticism of Swiss pastor Huldrych Zwingli for Luther's theology on purgatory, the veneration of the saints, and private confession.
